Pedaling Against Poverty

pedal

Check out Pedaling Against Poverty's website at:  http://www.thelendingjourney.com/fundraising-events/pedaling-against-poverty/.  Vince Vetro's journey explained -- on November 9, 2014 we will begin cycling 500km — uphill! — through Nicaragua, from Costa Rica to Honduras along the Pan-American Highway. Why uphill? Because the ride reflects the challenges our borrowers face every day and their resilience in keeping on keeping on.

Eight women that we have given loans to will be riding with us. The goal of the ride is to raise enough to provide 1,000 loans to 1,000 more. The other goal is to speak to young people across Canada about our responsibility to battle global poverty, and how we can do it together one pedal stroke at a time.

Sewing Mission Project - Thank You All!

Read the wonderful response below, we received after submitting our donation to the PAN Mission.  We have pledged to raise up to $1000 worth of assistance for the Presbyterians Aiding Nicaragua “Sewing Mission.”

Success!! We have hit our fundraising goal of $1000, and it will be used to help ship all of the materials and sundries (not to mention the 28 sewing machines!) that have also been collected when the next PAN Mission Trip leaves in October! Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this very worthwhile project!

Letter from Annette Vickers, Exec. Dir PAN Missions:

On behalf of PAN Missions, our Sewing Co-ordinator Nancy Hayes, and her dedicated group of assistants, I would like to sincerely thank you and the congregation of Knox Pres. Church Georgetown for the very welcome donation to our Sewing Program in Nicaragua.  The money will be used to further the establishment and ongoing development of our Sewing Co-op program in Nicaragua to provide skills and opportunities to poor women that will help them augment their family’s income.  The blessing of sewing machines and supplies are also very welcome.  As you know, we are still without a warehouse, so if anyone in your congregation can find us some free space, we would be thrilled.

We have many other programs and projects ongoing as well as ample opportunities for members of your congregation to actually participate in one of our teams.  Projects range from construction, to sports, children’s ministry, gardening, and several others.  It would be wonderful to have more people from Knox actually go to Nicaragua.  Our teams are made up of men and women from age 12 to folks in their 80’s.  With God, all things are possible!  More information on this can be found on our website, www.panmissions.org

Please pass along our deep felt thanks to all in your congregation.  I’m sure that Nancy and Hannah will have lots of photos that they can share with you after the October Sewing Mission.  God bless you all.
